The much anticipated Miss Otjikoto annual beauty pageant is tonight Friday at in Otjikoto Senior Secondary School main hall in Tsumeb.

Hosted under the theme, Beauty is power; a smile is its word to make girls aware that being a model is not only about the brightest smile but that being beauty is also power, smile and beauty going together make a model.

Thirteen finalists will vie for the crown. “Miss Otjikoto 2015 is bigger and better, though it has taken up a lot of time in terms of organising it. It has been tiring as contestants keep joining and dropping.  We started with 17 contestants and four of them dropped and 13 contestants have displayed high level of self esteem and they will make our event happening this Friday,” says Hilda Shikongo, one of the organisers.

“Tsumeb hotels managers were so positive and very eager to offer us free accommodation for the artists which is a good thing,” she adds. They also got sponsors from different clothing lines such as “I run my life” and “Collabo”, who will be sponsoring the models with tops and t-shirts. Lots of entertainment activities such as photo shoots and dancing are in store. For the first  time in the history of the school popular award winning music group,Twazis, will be performing. There will also be performances by the LHBT from Ondangwa and learners from the school

The winner of Miss Otjikoto 2015 will form a beauty pageant club at the school to inspire others to take part in modelling. “We believe that talent is moral and not everyone is academically gifted, so others should be encouraged to do something beyond academic. The winner will be organising  various activities within the club to raise funds for Miss Otjikoto 2016, organise charity activities at school to help the needy learners at the school,” says Shikongo.
