1 000 plots earmarked for Omuthiya
Omuthiya Omuthiya Town Council has embarked on the servicing of 1 000 residential plots, of which at least 400 erven have already been cleared for residential and business purposes. The process will see Omuthiya Town Council forking out an amount slightly over N$17 million towards the realisation of the first phase of the project. The council is busy with the first phase of servicing Extension 8, which will comprise of business and residential plots, and is said to be nearing completion. Sewerage and water pipes having been installed already while the provision of electricity and roads will soon follow soon. This was brought to light by the Town Council’s local economic development officer, David Israel, who explained that the second phase would involve the servicing of Extension 6, that will be serviced through a public-private partnership. “The tender was awarded to Preferred Management System (PMS) and they have already started working on the land. “Last month they started with de-bushing and soon roads will follow. We want to make land available to the people so that we can develop the town and cater for the growing population,” Israel said. He added that N$320 000 was reserved for gazetting and proclamation of new townships, as well as N$250 000 for registration and conducting general housing evaluations. “With such developments we are planning to deliver land to the people, as without these evaluations we will not manage in future when land is mostly needed. So, that’s why we are starting now, considering the lengthy processes involved before the land can be serviced,” Israel explained. Further, he said they plan to conduct a feasibility study for an airstrip at the town, for which an amount of N$200 000 has been proposed in the next financial year.
