2008-07-15Staff Report 2 By Staff Reporter WINDHOEK Acting on a tip off by City Police, members of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) last Saturday arrested a 48-year-old employee of the Ministry of Works and Transport, who illegally drove a truck laden with stolen scrap material. ACC Director, Paulus Noa, said the suspect, Phillipus Sheehama, was arrested for contravening Section 43 of the Anti-Corruption Act No 8 of 2008. It is alleged on the day he was arrested, Sheehama went to the Government Garage where he took a Government Tata truck registration number GRN 6439 that he loaded with 24 metal poles normally used for construction and drove to a scrap yard. Sheehama drove to the scrap yard with the metal poles, without any authorisation and without a trip authority, where he 'wanted to sell the Government iron poles' but the scrap yard manager became suspicious and refused to buy the poles. City Police were eventually contacted and they arrived while the accused was driving out of the scrap yard. When the police tried to stop the accused, he ignored them and a high-speed chase ensued, resulting in the driver's arrest. In the meantime, ACC was contacted. They took over the case of arresting the suspect. The ACC chief commended the City Police for having an excellent working relationship with the graft-bursting agency. Sheehama appeared in court yesterday. His case was postponed to September 8 pending further investigations. He failed to pay bail of N$2? 2008-07-15Staff Report 2
