Accused in court for murder
Keetmanshoop Chi-Chi Shilongo, 40, made a brief routine court appearance in a fully packed Keetmanshoop Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday on a charge of murder. The case was remanded to June 15 for his legal rights to be explained to him and for his legal representative to deliberate on the way forward. Shilongo is accused of hacking to death a 26-year-old man with a panga here on Sunday morning around 02h00 following an argument. The deceased died after he was allegedly attacked by the accused at TransNamib’s electrical workshop near Noordhoek residential area. It is alleged the accused and the victim had a quarrel and the suspect together with his dogs chased the deceased, and caught up with him at the TransNamib electrical workshop where the accused hacked the deceased with a panga on the head several times. Shikongo’s dogs also reportedly bit the victim. Unconfirmed reports say the accused, who is the owner of Chi-Chi bar in Noordhoek, had allegedly assaulted a customer for allegedly peeing on the wall at his premises. This prompted the deceased to leap to the defence of the customer being assaulted, which led to the confrontation between the two and resulted in the hacking. The Namibian Police Special Reserve Force escorted the accused, and their heavy presence was evident as they covered all corners of the court. The suspect remains in police custody.
