Seven accused of mob killing denied bail
Windhoek Seven men accused of beating a man to death in December were denied bail when they appeared in the Katutura Magistrate’s Court yesterday. The seven murder accused are Gerhad Kafibu, Alex Gawiseb, Johannes Xoageb, Quinton Gawanab, Nicky Vries, Ricardo Hoeseb and Riol Nanub. They made their first court appearance in connection with the murder on Thursday. The details surrounding the incident are sketchy, but the seven allegedly beat Ryon Roberto Makwena with an unknown object on December 12, 2015 at Katutura. Makwena was taken to Katutura State Hospital, where he later died from his injuries on December 17, court documents indicate. Prosecutor Granny Paulus objected vehemently to the granting of bail due to the serious nature and complexity of the charges the group is facing. The matter was then remanded to February 12 to enable the seven men to get legal representation. Magistrate Hambeleleni Heita presided.
