Achieving Vision 2030 is not likely – !Gawaxab
2015-07-01Staff Report 2 Windhoek Namibia will not be able to achieve Vision 2030 at the current pace, says Johannes !Gawaxab, a leading figure in the business sector. Vision 2030 is the government’s plan for Namibia to become an industrialised nation by the year 2030. Founding president Sam Nujoma, in his address to cabinet in 1998 emphasised the need for members of cabinet, in the interest of the government and the people, to be clear “about where we are, where we want to go from here, and over what time frame.” Nujoma had called on cabinet to deliberate on a vision that would catapult Namibia from the present into the future. “A vision that will guide us to make deliberate efforts to improve the quality of life of our people to the level of their counterparts in the developed world by the year 2030,” stated Nujoma at the time. !Gawaxab, who was responding to a question on whether Namibia is on course to attain Vision 2030, at an event that reflected on President Hage Geingob’s hundred days in office, said: “I don’t know why we should beat about the bush. We need to change gears if we are to get to Vision 2030. At this stage at the current pace we won’t become an industrialised nation by 2030. 2015-07-01Staff Report 2
