2015-10-29Staff Report 2 Windhoek Three men who stand accused of robbing a bar in Ausspannplatz six years ago had their bail reduced when they returned to the Katutura Regional Court this week. The five accused are Titus Shooya, Lisia Amwaama, Nande Valombola, Jerobeam Johannes and Christiaan ‘Killi’ Edward. Their bail was initially set at N$20 000 each, but for Shooya, Valombola and Johannes it has now been reduced to N$12 500. Edward’s bail remains at N$20 000. The matter has been dragging on in court with several postponements. The men are accused of being involved in an armed robbery at a bar and gambling house in Windhoek’s Ausspannplatz area on April 2, 2009. The accused fled with N$20 000 from the bar, but did not get far before police officers arrived on the scene. A deadly exchange of gunfire ensued, resulting in the death of two suspected robbers. Another two were wounded. Tuhafeni Kakololo, 39, who had a previous conviction for armed robbery and David Ndume, 25, were killed in the shootout. Johannes and Edward were wounded. They spent close to three weeks in hospital before they appeared in court in connection with the crime. The five men all denied guilt when they made a plea in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court in December 2010. The trial was set to start in the regional court at the end of November 2011, but the withdrawal of Edward’s defence lawyer delayed the trial until 2012. On Monday the matter was remanded to June 29, 2016 for plea and trial. Magistrate Elina Nandago presided. Menencia Hinda represented the State.
