Alliance Launches N$10 Campaign for the Needy
2008-02-04Staff Report 2 "By Wezi Tjaronda WINDHOEK The Church Alliance for Orphans (CAFO) has launched a campaign to strengthen Namibia's orphans and vulnerable children. The campaign comes in the wake of the need for increased intervention and support as the number of orphans and vulnerable children increases and as more and more pensioners with a meagre income of N$370 per month care for orphans on their own. The campaign will enable every willing Namibian to contribute N$10 per month through debit order payment system into CAFO's account, which will be given to organisations that assist orphans and vulnerable children. CAFO Director, Dr Henry Platt, said in a statement the funds would make the faith-based organisation more sustainable and less dependent on international assistance. ""This fund can make CAFO more sustainable, less dependent on outside help and involves the entire Namibian community in caring for its orphans, hence creating a nation of strong civilisation,"" he said. He appealed to all Namibians to generously give to this cause, which will in turn benefit Namibia and all its citizens. ""Today, we care but tomorrow they will take care of us,"" he added. CAFO was established in 2002 and is an umbrella organisation of 380 faith-based organisations operating in 68 towns established to develop support programmes for orphans and vulnerable children in different communities.
