Alweendo confirms Kahimise’s job at ECB

Mines and energy minister Tom Alweendo yesterday confirmed the appointment of Robert Kahimise as the new CEO of the Electricity Control Board. Without divulging the details of the appointment, Alweendo simply replied: “I can confirm”, when asked about the new appointment.

Kahimise, a former CEO at the City of Windhoek, will be the ECB’s first substantive CEO since the position was left vacant in August 2021 after the passing of former CEO, Foibe Namene.

On Tuesday, ECB spokesperson, Ferdinand Molale, said he would only be able to confirm the appointment “once the existing processes run their natural course”. Molale however, confirmed the endorsement to a local daily
newspaper.

Kahimise is currently the CEO at the Central North Regional Electricity Distributor (Censored), a position he has held since November 2020. He had previously served as CEO at ErongoRED from 2013 and then as CEO of the City of Windhoek. Kahimise previously held positions at the mines and energy ministry, the ECB as well as Rosh Pinah Zinc mine. He has also served on numerous boards, including the Namibia Energy Institute.

Kahimise’s educational background includes specialising in finance with a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from the Stellenbosch Business School in South Africa and is a certified regulation specialist by the University of Loughborough in the United Kingdom.
