2016-06-07Staff Report 2 Windhoek Namibia’s incumbent International Boxing Organisation (IBO) Junior Featherweight World champion Paulus ‘The Rock’ Ambunda, is ready to ruffle feathers and show the rest of the world what Namibian boxers are made of. The two-time world champion will confront Moise ‘Chucky’ Flores for the unification of the vacant World Boxing Association (WBA) and IBO Super Bantam Junior Featherweight Interim title at the giant Ramatex Hall on the outskirts of Namibia’s commercial capital city on Saturday. The stage is set for what many - particularly boxing pundits - have billed as “the fight of the century”, with two of the finest boxers pound-for-pound going head-to-head in what promises to be a real humdinger of a night. Ambunda has been hard in training, sweating it out for the on and off global title bout that has captured the imagination of local and international boxing enthusiasts since the mouth-watering fight was first announced earlier this year amidst much-hype and enthusiasm. Ambunda, 34, boasts a remarkable resumé of 24 wins, with just one defeat in 25 bouts, with 13 of hose finishing within the distance. Interestingly, his Mexican opponent holds an equally impressive unbeaten record of 24 wins out of the same number of bouts in the paid ranks, with only five of those bouts lasting the full distance – certainly no mean feat for any boxer. In the bouts on an appetising menu, former world world champion Paulus ‘The Hitman’ Moses takes on South African opponent Thompson Mokwane for the WBO Africa Interim Champion title, in what promises to be 12 rounds of blood, sweat and tears. Crowd favourite Sacky “Izinyoka” Shikukutu goes head-to-head with Jason Bedeman from South Africa for the vacant WBO Africa Interim Welterweight title over 12 rounds. WBO Africa Interim Featherweight champion Sakaria ‘Desert Storm’ Lukas looks destined to retain his belt when he comes up against Mohamed Matumla of Tanzania. Namibian boxing’s blue-eyed boy, Imms ‘Prince’ Naidjala, should have little trouble in holding onto his WBO Bantamweight Intercontinental title when he squares off against South African challenger Klass Mboyane, to complete a line-up cluttered with promising undercard bouts. 2016-06-07Staff Report 2
