Angula granted N$50 000 bail
WINDHOEK- The acting Secretary General of the National Union of Namibian Workers (NUNW), Alfred Angula, was granted bail in the amount of N$50 000 by Magistrate Concita Olivier yesterday. Angula’s relatives posted the bail and he was set free at around 11h30 in the morning. The bail was granted with a single bail condition attached to it, which is that Angula who was arrested a week ago should not interfere with the ongoing police investigation. The case has been postponed to February 10 next year for further police investigation. He faces charges of fraud and theft involving about N$1.2 million, which went missing at the Namibia Farm Workers Union (NAFWU), which he also served as the secretary general. The case was lodged by the donor agency, FOS-Belgium Southern Africa. He is accused of committing fraud between January 31 and December 31, 2012 while serving as the Secretary General of the farm workers’ union. The 48-year-old unionist was  arrested last week by the Namibian police and spent over a week in the Wanaheda police holding cells until the successful bail application yesterday. Angula was the Secretary General of NAFWU until July 2011, when he took up the position of acting Secretary General of the NUNW following the unceremonious departure of Evilastus Kaaronda.
