ONGWEDIVA - A 27-year-old woman from Eenhana in the Ohangwena Region became the latest victim of so-called passion killings, also called intimate homicide, when her live-in boyfriend allegedly stabbed her to death on Tuesday.

The fatal knifing of the victim took place while she was on her way to college on Tuesday morning.

According to a reliable source, Teofilia Hamukoto who had moved to Ondangwa to pursue a commerce course at the Ondangwa Commercial College was stabbed two times in the back and once in the neck.

“She moved to Ondangwa for school and got herself a live-in boyfriend in a shack at the Okalunga location behind Onguta parish,” said the source. It is believed her boyfriend had already threatened her with a panga over the weekend.

“The boyfriend ambushed her from behind and stabbed her two times in the back before she fell on the ground. When she fell down he stabbed her in the neck and cut her throat,” said the source.

The couple had a tempestuous relationship and often argued but were regulars at a church in Omashaka in Ondangwa, according to information doing the rounds.

The boyfriend allegedly kept a secret from the girlfriend which put a strain on their relationship and led to the victim abruptly ending their rocky affair.

The commander of the police in Oshana Region Commissioner Ndahangwapo Kashihakumwa confirmed the incident saying a case of murder was opened against the suspect.

The Prime Minister Dr Hage Geingob who is holding consultative meetings in the northern regions has condemned the abuse of women and children.

Geingob strongly feels the need to declare a war against what he termed a disease and shameful weakness in Namibian society.

The suspect was expected to appear in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
