Armed robbers get away with over N$900 000

WALVIS BAY - Armed robbers targeting cash-in-transit vehicles are causing havoc at the coast, with another robbery reported early Saturday at Walvis Bay.

This time around, five armed robbers ‘relieved’ the Southern Cross security guards of at least N$943 000 at Pupkewitz Megabuild. Inspector Ileni Shapumba on Saturday told New Era that the guards collected the money from various shops, and were also expected to collect at Pupkewitz Megabuild when they were ambushed by five men, of whom two were armed.

“The security guards were loading the cash box of the shop along with others that they picked up earlier from seven shops when they were attacked by the five men,” he explained. According to Shapumba, the suspects took a 32 Ruby Revolver that belongs to the security company, the Samsung phone of one of the guards, the cash and keys of a Nissan NP300 as well as the money before they sped away in a white VW Polo. Police, however, recovered N$28 616 that was left in the cash-in-transit vehicle and a cell phone that belongs to one of the suspects, which will now be key in their efforts to trace the suspects.
