"Bank Windhoek Arts Festival The 2006 Bank Windhoek Arts Festival thus far ensured a year of festivity and will continue to do so during December. The festival programme for the month of December 2006 was announced at a press conference held at Bank Windhoek and arts enthusiasts can once again look forward to a full programme. ""Through the Bank Windhoek Arts Festival, Bank Windhoek created a platform for arts in Namibia. Therefore, Bank Windhoek will continue to promote the arts in Namibia through the Bank Windhoek Arts Festival in 2007,"" emphasized Marlize Horn of Bank Windhoek. Bank Windhoek's commitment towards the arts is furthermore strengthened by continuing with different Arts Festival events each month. During the month of December 2006, a variety of different performances and exhibitions will take place. These events include: - The Mascato Youth Choir will host a concert on 1 and 2 December in Swakopmund at the Namib Primary Aula and on 3 December they will perform at the Walvis Bay Primary School. - Sjorde; A re-launch of the popular lunch-hour programme with Jazz Groove, Dave Webster and Troupe will take place during 6 and 8 December 2006 at Studio 77. - Journey of the Shepherd: Shiya Karuseb's mixed media works will be displayed at the National Art Gallery of Namibia during 5 and 19 December 2006. - A jewellery Exhibition by Frieda Luehl will be held at Omba Arts Gallery from 22 November to 9 December 2006. - Sjorde; The Cuban Corner Dance school presents Latin and Classical dances with Edmund and Theo between 24 and 26 January 2007 at Studio 77. National Gallery The artist, Marianne Woller in collaboration with BankÃÆ'Æ'ÀÃ...ÃÆ''šÃ‚ Windhoek Arts FestivalÃÆ'Æ'ÀÃ...ÃÆ''šÃ‚ last night opened an exhibit of oil paintings called "" Opening Space"" in the Upper Gallery at NAGN and runs until 21st December.ÃÆ'Æ'ÀÃ...ÃÆ''šÃ‚  The exhibition was officially opened by Prof Aldo Behrens.ÃÆ'Æ'ÀÃ...ÃÆ''šÃ‚ Bank Windhoek also sponsored the printing costs of this exhibition. Torture Awareness Day:ÃÆ'Æ'ÀÃ...ÃÆ''šÃ‚  This exhibition called ""Never again"" will be promoted through the Ombudsman's schedule for the 16 days of activism and human rights week, which will be printed and distributed to the public and to relevant organizations.ÃÆ'Æ'ÀÃ...ÃÆ''šÃ‚  The exhibition will take place for the full day of 8th December in the Lower Gallery of NAGN. ÃÆ'Æ'ÀÃ...ÃÆ''šÃ‚ Shiya Karuseb:ÃÆ'Æ'ÀÃ...ÃÆ''šÃ‚  This exhibition entitled ""Journey of the Shepherd"" presents paintings, drawings and sculpture will take place on 05th until 19th December in the Main Gallery of NAGN.ÃÆ'Æ'ÀÃ...ÃÆ''šÃ‚  Prof. Andre du Pisani will open this exhibition at 18h30. This is also a Bank Windhoek sponsored exhibition. Art Exhibition at FNCC Students of the FNCC art courses will be presenting their work at the CafÃÆ'Æ'Æ'ÃÆ''šÃ‚© des Arts as from next Wednesday until Friday 15 December. The following courses have been offered by Max Shiimi: - Drawing: to give the students overall insight into drawing techniques. - Printmaking: to teach students basic printing skills with an historical perspective. - Form and colour studies: to explore various mediums like spray paint, watercolour and acrylic painting. Overview of Cuban Paintings Next Week Next Monday the Cuban Embassy will present an overview of a century of painting in Cuba at 18h00 at the FNCC. On the basis of a selection of important paintings, Mr Evelio Sanchez willÃÆ'Æ'ÀÃ...ÃÆ''šÃ‚ talk aboutÃÆ'Æ'ÀÃ...ÃÆ''šÃ‚ the evolution of painting in Cuba during the 20th century, which reflects the miscegenation process characterizing the Island - where both European and African cultural elements can be perceived in the works of Cuban artists.ÃÆ'Æ'ÀÃ...ÃÆ''šÃ‚  Samples ofÃÆ'Æ'ÀÃ...ÃÆ''šÃ‚ all the passion, the colour of the tropics, the traditions and the national identity of the Caribbean island will be seen by means of excellent reproductions and photos which will accompany Mr Sanchez's presentation."
