ARTNam to kick off next Thursday with Art Talk
WINDHOEK ARTNam is back again this year and will be hosting its first discussion in partnership with the Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre (FNCC) next Thursday. Artists from across all disciplines as well as members of the general public are encouraged to attend the Art Talk titled ‘The artist union, a potential powerhouse’. The serious subject matter aims to reassess the status of the existing artists’ unions as the principal representatives of the artistic fraternity. The discussion serves as a wakeup call for the existing artists’ unions. More importantly it is to call upon artists to realign their partnership with existing unions and assist at elevating their structures, or to create new bodies that will potentially fill the current void in effective artists’ representation. The Art Talk panel will involve representatives of existing unions, local artists, a representative of the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture and an expert with legal and/or economic background.  The event will start at 18h30 and entrance is free. ARTNam is a voluntary organisation founded to improve the business parameters within the arts industry, and to further the status of the individual artist in Namibia. The objectives of ARTNam is to promote and protect the status of Namibian artists, to unify the artists’ voices in Namibia within and across existing arts disciplines, to lobby for increased public and private sector arts funding and to analytically engage arts organisations financed through public funds. ARTNam pro-actively engages with the individual artist as well to lead her/him to be self-critical and to improve consistently.  "
