B2Gold warns of recruitment scams on social media
Windhoek The B2Gold Namibia management team says it has been inundated with calls and enquiries to verify whether it has over 100 vacancies. Rumours and notices of vacancies at the gold miner have been spreading like wildfire on social media, sometimes complete with a B2Gold email address. In addition, B2Gold cautions members of the public not to fall for a recruitment scam where job seekers are asked to pay to secure employment at the Otjikoto gold mine. “This is a rumour and a scam. We respectfully request the public not to participate in sharing this message on social media. As valued B2Gold stakeholders, please assist us to spread the word that this is a scam. B2Gold Namibia will never use social media platforms like Twitter, WhatsApp, Facebook or any other such channels,” said B2Gold Namibia spokesperson, Gretha du Plessis. She added that B2Gold Namibia does not make use of small classified adverts in newspapers, SMSs or radio adverts to announce vacancies. “We would also like to use this opportunity to again warn everyone that unscrupulous individuals and 'companies' are using our company name to solicit money from prospective jobseekers with the promise of employment at the B2Gold Namibia Otjikoto Mine. Members of the public are solicited either through personal contact, social media, SMS, newspaper adverts and radio announcements “to be trained and placed” at B2Gold Namibia if cash is paid upfront,” Du Plessis warned. “B2Gold only uses formal advertising in selected major daily newspapers to advertise our vacancies. These vacancies are always advertised on a Branded B2Gold template with the easily-recognisable B2Gold logo and black/gold company colours; the advert will always be of a fair size (A5 or larger); we will never place a small advert in the classified section,” Du Plessis explained. B2Gold Namibia has emphasised that employment can only be obtained through a standard application and interviewing procedure. “We adhere to fair and transparent recruitment practices and the payment of cash to any company or individual will not secure employment at B2Gold. Please assist us to be vigilant and to warn your friends and family about these scams,” Du Plessis warned.
