Basketball Artists School (BAS) receives equipment from B2Gold Namibia
2015-03-16Staff Report 2 WINDHOEK - B2Gold Namibia and the Basketball Artists School (BAS) celebrated the handover of sports equipment to the school earlier this month. The handover ceremony was officiated by B2Gold Namibia’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) coordinator, Conney Manghono, and the director of BAS, Frank Albin. B2Gold Namibia donated sports equipment to the value of N$15 000 to the school through its CSR programme, which will be used as part of the BAS after-school initiative. BAS is an after-school centre located in Katutura that helps learners from various backgrounds improve their academic performance by attending afternoon classes – all the while keeping active through playing basketball, hence the centre’s slogan, ‘Education first and basketball second’. Frank, who has led the centre since 2010, said: “The assistance from B2Gold comes at an opportune time for the children as we are just settling into our new premises and having new equipment just makes BAS the ideal place for education and sports coexistence, and this is what we’ve always wanted to do and what we want to continue doing.” Explaining why B2Gold Namibia felt the need to support BAS, Conney said: “B2Gold prides itself in being a community development catalyst through the various efforts of people like Frank and his team. The concept of combining education and sports is a unique thing and BAS has been doing this successfully for the past five years. We would like to see more efforts in this line – hence our support here today.” 2015-03-16Staff Report 2
