Birthday boy Dudes, nets first PSL goal
Windhoek Brave Warriors’ towering centre-back, Dudes Mwedihanga, celebrated his 30th birthday in great style on Saturday when he netted his first goal in the highly competitive South African Professional Soccer League (PSL) in Pretoria. The former Tigers’ beanpole defender finally registered his name on the scoresheet as he steered his relegation-threatened University of Pretoria outfit AmaTuks to a hard-fought 1-0 win over fellow strugglers Jomo Cosmos. The goal was Mwedihanga’s first since joining the paid ranks in the lucrative South African flagship league. His rollercoaster career started three seasons ago with the now-relegated Durban outfit AmaZulu, where fellow Namibian Petrus Shitembi plies his trade. In other PSL action, another Namibian, Deon Hotto-Kavendjii, also registered his name on the scoreboard when the speedy purple-haired former African Stars winger opened the scoring and played a hand in both the other two goals in Lamontville Golden Arrows’ 3-1 demolition of Free State Stars. The latter boasts two Namibians on its books in the shape of burly defender Dacosta Angula and Ballack Somaeb (forward). Angula did not feature in the match, while Somaeb came on as second-half substitute. Ennio Hamutenya joins Naxxar Lions Namibia’s Malta-based young midfielder Ennio Hamutenya has joined Naxxar Lions from Valletta FC on loan until the end of season. Hamutenya signed with Valletta FC last November. Before joining Valletta F.C, he spent three weeks on trial with A.C. Milan, but despite having successfully completed the trials, Milan could not sign the youngster due to Namibia’s poor ranking on the FIFA world rankings. Ennio is expected to make his debut with Naxxar Lions next Sunday against his former club Valletta. He is the younger brother of Miguel Hamutenya, who plays for Hönefoss BK in the Norwegian first division.
