2006-02-08Staff Report 2 "By Kuvee Kangueehi WINDHOEK Former Brave Warriors and former South African Premier League goalkeeper Ronnie Kanalelo has been appointed the new technical director at Black Africa Sports Club. In a media release issued last week the public relations officer of Black Africa Cassius Moetie announced to the club supporters and public that the Executive Committee of Black Africa Sport Club had appointed its former goalkeeper, Kanalelo, as its technical director with effect from Monday, 30 January 2006. Kanalelo, since hanging up his boots almost a year ago was a goalkeeper coach at his former club Sundowns in a brief stint. The former Sundowns goalkeeper also spent a few weeks with the Brave Warriors as a part of the coaching staff before the national team was kicked out of the Cosafa Cup last season. Kanalelo narrowly missed out to be appointed as the technical director of the Namibia Football Association after a marathon race between him and Seth Boois who was eventually appointed. The Black Africa Chairman Boni Paulino said Black Africa, better known, as the Lively Lions, had earned itself another name - the Cup Kings of Namibian foot- ball. ""However, the Executive Committee regrets that the Cup Kings could not successfully defend the FNB Cup last year. We were also eliminated in the pre-season Humphries Tournament last year, a record that does not fit our character."" Another cause for concern is the current performance of the football club in the league competition. Black Africa has ended at an unacceptable position on the Premier League log standings for the past three consecutive years. This league profile does not correspond with the reputation and attitude BA has when participating in tournaments which all Namibians assume in advance Black Africa would win, Paulino noted. Paulino mentioned that both the MTC Premier League Championship and MTC FA Cup competitions have lucrative awards this season and if Black Africa wish to claim any victory ""we need to revisit the BA Vision 2010 adopted in 2004 and take serious decisions that complement those long-term objectives"". He added that it was against that background that his executive committee deemed it necessary to review the performance of its football club and the prospects for the future which led to the unanimous decision to appoint Kanalelo as technical director. Kanalelo is no stranger to football. He commands a reservoir of experience in Namibia and on professional level. He previously played for Eleven Arrows FC and Blue Waters FC in Walvis Bay and moved on to Black Africa FC before signing a contract with the People's Team, Mamelodi Sundowns, in South Africa. During his tenure with Black Africa, Kanalelo impressed many Namibian football enthusiasts and coaches and was subsequently selected as goalkeeper of the Brave Warriors. Paulino said that every one in Black Africa is pleased that ""our former player can come back home and plough back his experience to help elevate the standard of football, especially that of BA to greater heights"".
