Boy kills cousin over palm fruits
Ongwediva A brawl over palm fruits (oondunga) led to the death of a 13-year-old girl who was stabbed by her cousin last week Thursday at Okakekete village near Outapi. Martha Simon was stabbed with a knife in the left rib. She was rushed to Oshakati Intermediate Hospital where she succumbed to her stab wound on Friday morning. The suspect, an 11-year-old boy, is currently under police custody at Tsandi Police Station and is expected to appear in court today. Simon was a Grade 8 learner at Omufitu waNauyala Combined School, while the suspect is a Grade 7 learner at Oshikulufitu Combined School. Omusati regional police spokesperson Sergeant Anna Kunga confirmed the incident. Kunga confirmed there was a fight between the two cousins. Police sources said that the two were actually fighting over palm fruits. It is alleged Simon had eaten some of the suspect’s palm fruits. “From there, the victim proceeded to insult the suspect,” the police source alleged. Inspector Slogan Matheus of the Public Relations Division alleged it seems as if Simon had defeated the suspect in the brawl, who then went to collect a knife to retaliate. Simon and the suspect were cousins, residing in the same house. Simon’s next of kin have been informed.
