Staff Reporter

A Standard Bank manager has been arrested for allegedly stealing about N$1.1 million from the bank last week at Arandis. According to the police, the 47-year-old Arandis branch manager allegedly took N$800 000 between Thursday and Friday from the bank’s safe, and handed the cash over to an unknown person on the B2 road.

She also allegedly transferred over N$300 000 to the unknown person’s account held at a local bank. The unknown person had allegedly promised the banker she would get double of the said amount back.

“It is further alleged that, on 30 April 2021 during lunch, the suspect was again called by the same person, and was requested to deposit an additional amount of N$306 000 into a Bank Windhoek account number which was sent to her via sms, which she did. The total value involved is N$1 106 000.

Nothing has been recovered yet,” said the police.

The branch manager was subsequently arrested, and is set to appear in the Swakopmund Magistrate’s Court this morning.

Attempted rape

Meanwhile, the police in the //Kharas region have arrested a 20-year-old man for attempting to rape a one-year-old toddler at Bethanie.

“It is alleged that the suspect entered the room while the toddler’s mother was out, according to a witness. The suspect and the victim were taken to hospital for rape kit examination completion. Police investigations continue,” the police said.

At Kuisebmond, Walvis Bay on Thursday, an 18-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a relative, who is known to the police but has not been arrested yet. “But the search to trace him is still on.”

Another rape case was also reported at Okongo’s Ehafo village on Saturday after a 22-year-old Angolan national reportedly raped a 14-year-old girl after entering her room.

The suspect is a domestic worker in the victim’s family home.
