2008-03-14Staff Report 2 By Staff Reporter WINDHOEK Britain has given the Namibian Red Cross Society (NRCS) N$750 000 to help households affected by floods. A statement from the British High Commission in Windhoek said yesterday Britain contributed the money to the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies' Southern African floods appeal for the relief of households worst affected by flooding. The areas worst affected are Ohangwena, Oshana, Omusati, Oshikoto, Kavango and Caprivi regions. On February 13, the IFRC &RC launched a revised emergency appeal for US$10.3 million (approximately N$72 million) to respond to the flood crisis affecting many countries in southern Africa. The money will be disbursed from Britain's Department for International Development through the British Red Cross Society and the IFRC to the NRCS. The Government has declared the floods a national emergency and has appealed for assistance from the international community. 2008-03-14Staff Report 2
