WINDHOEK - A seemingly burglary-prone electronics shop in Maerua Mall was again broken into last Friday, a mere two weeks after it was previously burgled.

Prior to the break-ins last week on Friday and Friday October 17, burglars had allegedly broke into the shop twice before and looted pricey electronics.

Last Friday’s burglary happened barely some fourteen days after alert members of the City Police on routine patrol caught a thief red-handed with 20 brand-new cellphones, among them Nokias and Samsungs worth a combined N$50 000.

Last Friday night burglars again targeted the same shop and managed to get away with cellphones, memory cards, USB cables and phone batteries.

‘’It was the fourth time the shop was burgled,” said Ndevahoma Nahas Mukwaita, the Assistant Superintendent of the Windhoek City Police.

The previous time the shop was burgled the City Police on the night-time beat apprehended a suspect who has since appeared in court on charges of housebreaking with intent to steal and theft.

Thomas Andreas was not granted bail and it is unlikely he was behind the latest break-in and burglary at the luckless shop. 

Andreas worked as a guard at the mall and he was the only one apprehended but he has since spilled the beans and named his comrades-in-crime.

Mukwaita added that the police are not too sure if it is the same group that takes turns breaking into the shop, but said that police investigations continue and they are sure they will soon make a breakthrough.

No arrest has in the meantime been made for the latest break-in and police are asking anybody with information to come forward and promised all information would be treated with the utmost confidence.

Mukwaita reiterated earlier urgings from law enforcement agents advising businesses and other people to activate their alarm systems in view of the expected upsurge in burglaries as Namibians prepare to celebrate the annual festive season.
