Cabinet Decisions: INTERNATIONAL PRESSURE TO BAN HUNTING AND THE IMPORT OF WILDLIFE PRODUCTS
Cabinet approved Namibia’s position to oppose any call to ban or restrict hunting and the export of wildlife products from Namibia; Cabinet directed the Ministry of Environment and Tourism to actively campaign against any attempt to ban or restrict hunting and the export of wildlife products from Namibia; Cabinet further directed Cabinet members to participate in this campaign by supporting Namibia’s position at different fora and communicate at all possible opportunities its importance to the national conservation and sustainable development programmes; Cabinet took note that a code of conduct for conservation hunting is being developed, accompanied by improvements in the regulations of hunting and strengthening the link between hunting and conservation; and Cabinet supports the Ministry of Environment and Tourism in its efforts to engage with partners in conservation and development in intensifying measures aimed at stopping wildlife crimes.
