Carnalito Fiesta to light up northern sky

Emilie Shimbali

Music lovers in northern Namibia are in for a treat when legendary musicians in the likes of Exit Rockaz, Tulisan, Don Kamati, Amazonkies, PDK and others light up the sky with electrifying performances under the Carnalito Fiesta from tonight until Sunday evening.

Brought to you by medical doctor Immanuel Shikongo and Uulli Nghihalwa, the music festival, set at the Live Zone Entertainment venue along the Ongwediva-Oshakati main road, promises to send the audience into ecstasy, especially since they have been starved of live performances due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Kamati told VIBEZ! the pandemic has been very challenging – and upcoming artists, especially, were left with nowhere to advance their music careers.

“Hence, Carnalito will give a platform to artists to showcase their art, and our priority is for emerging artists. Some upcoming musicians are coming to perform for the first time in the North, while some of them will interact for the first time with artists from Windhoek. This is their best opportunity to network,” he said.

Kamati stated that instead of just doing big concerts in the city, it is important to consider the northern parts of the country, as it helps to keep the country vibrant – the way it should be.

The event is a first of its kind, and it will serve as a good platform for small to medium enterprises to showcase their products, since the main reason is to help all industries to grow.

“We have the old and new era. We encourage the youth to come out, and the businesses – both the private and public – to come sell their products,” he said.

Kamati described Shikongo as someone
with a passion for community building, saying he actually invited creatives together, since the town council does not have a budget for events like this.

He quoted Shikongo as saying: “Let’s just form a union and work with the community so we build each other; we are all we have”.

“I believe  as young people, we depend too much on government to develop initiatives. As young people, we need a spirit of unity and to empower each other. We don’t want the spirit of jealousy; everybody must try to improve the economic state of others,” he urged.

Fans are advised to be on their best behaviour, because there will be tight security.  They are also expected to dress exceptionally well, since there will be a competition of the best appearance. Other competitions will be based on sports activities. - emilienashea9@gmail.com
