2008-02-20Staff Report 2 "By Carlos Kambaekwa WINDHOEK The lack of resources and other recreational facilities should in no way stop aspiring sportsmen and women from fulfilling their dreams to compete and represent their country internationally, said the Country Manager of Holcim Namibia Johan Burger. Burger delivered the message at the official handing over of 60 soccer balls to the Namibia Schools Sports Union (NSSU) in Windhoek yesterday. He specifically emphasized the importance of sport development at an early age and added that sport is a vital element in the successful education of children. He urged children to take some time off from their studies to get involved in some form of exercise. ""That is why even though some children do not belong to certain teams or various sporting disciplines, schools always ensure that physical education becomes part of the curriculum,"" added Burger. Burger commended the hard work done by the National Schools Sports Union by ensuring that all children across the length and breadth of the country are exposed to some form of sport through the various development programmes currently in place. The National Schools Sport Co-ordinator Solly Duiker said Government still remains the sole financial backers of all school sports activities and this scenario needed to change, and urged corporate business to come on board and assist the line ministry in order to nurture talent for 2010.
