Centre strives to make orphans top students
2015-08-19Staff Report 2 WINDHOEK Thanks to the benevolence of some community members, children like Vanescia Gaeses and Solomon Andreas from the Tsumeb Orphans and Vulnerable Children’s (Tov) programme are being offered schooling opportunities. As a result the two are among the star learners achieving straight A’s in their classes. Vanescia, 10, is a top-performing student at Tsumeb Kuvukiland Primary School today and is sponsored by Dr Masimba Dauramanzi, while Solomon is supported by the patron of the Tsumeb Orphans and Vulnerable Children Centre, Kauna Ndilula. Anyone can ‘adopt’ a child for N$300 per month. The ‘adoption’ support system consists of 10 adoptees for each child. When one adopts a child they are required to support the child financially with N$300 per month. The money is used to cater for the child's needs at the centre. The centre is studying the extraordinary work done at St Boniface in the Kavango East Region. Their conclusion is that any child anywhere in Namibia can achieve the top results that students at St Boniface in the Kavango get, provided that the environment is conducive and there is good investment in the programmes. To turn all its children into A+ learners, the centre needs an investment of at least N$20 000 per month. Other sponsors include Mary Forsythe Desousa who sponsors six children, Dr Masimba Dauramanzi (1), Dr Amon & Emma Siveregi (2) T. Ram (2), as well as many other occasional donors. Those who want to help transform Tov into the St Boniface of the Oshikoto Region for the benefit of its 54 children, can sign up for the ‘child adoption programme’ at a cost of only N$300 per month. 2015-08-19Staff Report 2
