2016-09-30Staff Report 2 Omuthiya A three-year-old girl from the village of Onyaanya in Oshikoto Region was found dead in the veld on Tuesday after she allegedly consumed a local brew known as ombike. The deceased was identified as Liina Namutenya Shinodino. It is alleged the victim was left alone at home without food and water by her paternal grandmother on Monday. The lack of food compelled the minor to drink the transparent but highly potent brew that was stored in a hut, with the intention to quench her thirst, said Oshikoto Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Naomi Katjiua. Her next of kin have been informed about the tragedy. In an unrelated incident, at around 13h30 on Tuesday, a 30-year-old man at Emosho Investment CC in Nomtsoub location in Tsumeb died an unnatural death in a freak accident when a car he was repairing collapsed on him and he died on the spot. It is alleged the vehicle trapped the deceased by the neck. According to Katjiua the deceased who was identified as Sikunawa Iyambo was busy replacing the front tyres of the vehicle by using two hydraulic jacks. While he was underneath the vehicle trying to position the left jack it slipped from its bearing, causing the vehicle to fall on top of the deceased.
