City flooded with noise pollution complaints
WINDHOEK - Concerned parents daily approach the Windhoek Municipality to complain of noise pollution emanating from drinking spots in Windhoek, the municipality’s Public Relations Officer, Lydia Amutenya, says. Speaking to New Era yesterday, Amutenya added that the popular Eveline Street in Katutura is notorious for such complaints. However, Amutenya noted that there are many other streets that contribute to noise pollution through loud music coming from shebeens and bars in Windhoek. Grade 10 and 12 learners are writing their final examinations and it is with this in mind that the Windhoek Municipality last week made a public announcement by urging residents to shut down their music and juke boxes from 19h00 Monday to Thursday during October and November. “This is really a special call to all residents to take the examination period seriously. We have been approached by residents who complain of noise pollution and that learners cannot concentrate because of this,” explained Amutenya. In an event of excessive uncontrolled noise in residential areas inhabitants are advised to call the police to enforce law and order, Amutenya explained. “This is a genuine call and it is to the benefit of all of us. It is for everyone’s benefit that learners perform well during their examinations,” said Amutenya.
