Keetmanshoop Portraying a good public image of the ministry by doing an excellent job should be every worker’s task, the Deputy Minister of Gender Equality and Child Welfare, Lucia Witbooi says. She made the remark on Monday while addressing gender equality staff at Keetmanshoop. She said because of hard work and commitment to service delivery on the part of the ministry’s staff, the wider public would look at the ministry with appreciation and praise, thus creating a good public image. She reminded the staff that they are the most important piece in the ministry’s puzzle and should be effective and prepared to carry out their duties with excellence. “You are the most important part of the ministry,” Witbooi told those present. Witbooi, however, added that portraying a good image does not only end with service delivery, but responsibility should also be taken to ensure that no staff member is associated with bad habits, such as alcohol and drug abuse. “Avoid misuse of state property and avoid driving the ministry’s vehicles under the influence of alcohol,” she said. She also called on civil servants to refrain from negative activities that might affect their work performance and urged them to follow the rules and guidelines when carrying out their duties, and to avoid repeat absenteeism from work for no reason, while cautioning them against sleeping on duty. The ministry’s acting deputy director for the //Kharas region, Jeanetta Claassen, in her short remarks then briefed the minister on their operations in the region and said excellent performance is what her team strives for. “We can assure you that we are very focused on service delivery in our region,” she said. Witbooi rounded off her familiarisation tour of the region on Wednesday after meeting various leaders and visiting several early childhood development centres.
