2016-01-29Staff Report 2 Windhoek Coastal comedy lovers are in for a treat as comedian Kamanomengi promises to deliver dozes of laughter ala Otjiherero tonight in the Medulethu Hall in Swakopmund and tomorrow night in Namsov Hall in Walvis Bay. According to Kamanomengi, real name Dave Rukero, the Culture and Comedy show has been organised to discover unknown comedians who cannot express their talent in English. The show will feature Banda Hijangaruu Veseevete who will enlighten the audience on Otjiherero/Otjimbanderu cultural affairs. He says the two shows are on popular demand by comedy lover in the Coast, following a show which was broadcast live on the Omurari Wondjivisiro Ombaranga, the Namibian Broadcasting Service (NBC)’s Otjiherero Radio Station last December. Kamanomengi, a this station’s radio presenter, says he does not see himself as a professional comedian as comedy is just a character that he is exploring. “Comedy is my God given talent, something I was born to do, I can’t call it my profession but if the nation regards me as a professional comedian that depends on them,” he says. He adds that he discovered his talent through listeners telling him whenever they meet him how they enjoy listening to his jokes on air. He has been a radio presenter for eight years but he hosted his first comedy show last year. “I do comedy to inform, educate and entertain the nation because a lot of people are talented but they do not get the privilege of showing it. So I decided to do a show last year just to encourage them that they can do what they love and best even [if] they cannot speak English,” says Kamanomengi. He is planning to organise a national tour to find and network with those that are interested in comedy in their own language and introduce them to the industry. He promised breathtaking shows this weekend going down memory lane to his primary school days. “It’s time for the coastal people to meet me live and in action. They must [have] their tissues [ready] because the jokes I have in store for them will break them into tears,” promises Kamanomengi. Entrance fee is N$10 for children and N$20 for adults.
