Corrie thrives with his flower shop

Since he can remember, there have been flowers in his life. It is thus no surprise that Corrie du Plessis opened a flower shop he named ‘Fabulous’.

The shop has been operational for one year now, successfully in partnership with the Wecke & Voigts Spar retailers Westlane Spar and Grove Super Spar, among others. They sell beautifully-arranged fresh flowers, and also do event décor, planning and management.

“It has always been my dream to own and successfully manage my own flowers and event management company because I literally grew up in flowers with my mom (Elizabeth) being a well-known and sought-after florist for about 40 years,” he tells VIBEZ!

Du Plessis (34) said he quit his high-paying job at a local marketing agency over one year ago to pursue his passion and dream full-time.  “I took that leap of faith so I can work towards my ultimate dream of owning my own floral and events management shop. If you do what you love doing, like your passion, they say you are never working, right?”

The company has been staying afloat for over a year, in spite of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, and it has been difficult.

“However, this is the right time to think outside the box and to challenge your drive, and make that dream and passion become a reality. If you work hard and simply believe in your success or whatever it is, then it will surely be worth it, and you will reap the fruits of your hard work.”

He said the events management business and flower arrangement business work hand in hand.

“The smile and satisfaction from a client when they receive or order flowers and see the final product is what drives and fulfils me.”

The budding entrepreneur has seven staff members who help with both businesses, and make sure everything runs smoothly.

Du Plessis, who also worked in the radio industry at some point, encouraged fellow young people on the journey they have to take in order to make it.

“Fellow entrepreneurs like myself: never, ever give up on your dream, your hustle, your passion. If you fall, it’s fine, it’s normal. But get up, jump up and run again. Have faith and work hard. If you can believe, you can achieve.”   - slunyangwe@nepc.com.na
