COTA to fundraise with dancing night
"Windhoek The College of the Arts (COTA)  along with Drum Café Namibia are hosting an evening of vibrant energy, rhythms, dancing and singing at the Warehouse Theatre next Thursday. This is to raise funds to help the choir with  its travelling expenses to Russia in July where it would be representing Namibia at the 2016 c. This is  the third time in that the choir is representing the country. The World Choir Games (formerly named the Choir Olympics) is the largest choir competition in the world, organised for amateur choirs from all over the world, regardless of their country of origin, race, and genre of music or artistic ambitions.  With this in mind, At the event the audience will get the change to join in by getting percussion instruments to accompany the choir, as well as get to learn a Namibian play song to perform with the choir. “This is a unique event and will provide loads of fun, just what is needed to ring in the long weekend, says the leader of the choir, Fanie Dorfling. The dynamic young choir consists of more than 50 members composed of learners from various secondary schools in Windhoek. The choir has performed at various places in the country also as far as Germany, Latvia and United States among others. At the 2014 World Choir Games, the choir received three Gold Medals in the Championship for Scenic Folklore, Musica Sacra and Spiritual categories, as well as silver in the Mixed Youth Choir category. Tickets are N$200 per person and N$450 for VIP tickets. VIP tickets include a welcome drink, snacks, CD and exclusive seating. Tickets are available from the following places: Jonno’s (Auas Shopping Mall), Wilde Eend, Slowtown (Grove Mall) and Shadonai (Baine’s Shopping Mall). The show starts at 19h00. This year marks the ninth World Choir Games, held every second year. The idea of the games originated from the effort to bring people together through singing in peaceful competition, showing that unity of nations through the arts can be effectively and illustratively demonstrated and challenged."
