Court clears Nekundi of domestic violence charges
By Tunomukwathi Asino and Mathias Haufiku WINDHOEK – The Katutura Magistrate’s Court on Friday cleared member of parliament-elect Veikko Nekundi of charges relating to domestic violence, which he allegedly committed against his wife. Nekundi was accused of beating up and pointing a gun at his wife, Getrude Nekundi. However, after reviewing the evidence submitted the court found Nekundi was not a violent man and could not find evidence of domestic violence. Nekundi was also accused of hacking his wife’s cellphone and changing the locks of their home. Nekundi denied all the charges. The couple have been married for five years and have two children. Mbushandje Ntinda from Sisa Namandje & Co represented Nekundi. Meanwhile, Swapo Party Secretary General Nangolo Mbumba sternly warned his party’s leaders to refrain from carrying out any acts of abuse against women. Speaking to New Era last week, Mbumba strongly cautioned party members to refrain from any form of violence. “Whether you are on the list or not or whether you are a former member or a new member, no Namibian man has the right to hurt a woman or anybody for that matter,” he said.
