2015-02-19Staff Report 2 OSHAKATI - The Oshakati Magistrate’s Court has reversed its decision to sentence 21-year-old Mautitius Kaambulwa to community service after he was convicted of theft. The court will deliver a new sentence next week Tuesday, presiding magistrate Vivian Ndlovu said. Although the court had initially proposed that Kaambulwa be given community service work, information read before the court compiled by the community service officer indicated that Kaambulwa cannot be recommended to do community service. It was further stated in the document brought before court that Kaambulwa is a habitual criminal who continues to steal from his home and those of other community members. “It is stated that the accused is a habitual criminal who steals from his own home and that of the public,” said Markus Angula in his submission to court. It was also further stated that the community is unhappy with his activities and therefore do not want him back in the community. Based on the information gathered from the public, the community service officer recommended that another sentence be proposed instead of community service. Kaambulwa will be sentenced in the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday. Kaambulwa was arrested on February 13 for stealing two bottles of Castelo wine, two cans of viennas and N$20 in cash. Evidence before court indicated that Kaambulwa went into a local shebeen, ordered a bottle of Castelo wine and left without paying. It was further indicated that he came back to the shop and threatened to kill the girl. He then took another Castelo bottle as well as two tins of viennas and the N$20.
