2015-03-12Staff Report 2 MASIVI - A 19-year-old cyclist was bumped by a vehicle at Masivi village on Monday some five kilometres west of Rundu, along the Rundu-Grootfontein road, and died in the Rundu Intermediate Hospital on Tuesday. It is alleged the driver of a red BMW sedan with a foreign registration number: TCW 561 EC, Joubert Shaun Craig, 49, a South African was travelling from the western direction going east along the Trans-Caprivi Highway, B8 road when he bumped the cyclist - who was going in the same direction. The victim, who was identified as Lucas Murobe, was immediately rushed to the Rundu Intermediate Hospital in a critical condition and later died on Tuesday at 07h30. He sustained a fractured skull and multiple bruises. A case of reckless/negligent driving was opened against Craig during the time of the accident but it has now been changed to culpable homicide after the victim passed on. According to Rundu-based Detective Chief Inspector Ewald Kavara, who confirmed the case, the suspect was not arrested. Meanwhile, police spokesperson for Kavango East, Detective Chief Inspector Chrispin Mubebo, reported the death of Ihemba Lucas Likuwa who hanged himself from a tree with a piece of wire. It is alleged the deceased committed suicide because he thought he had killed his girlfriend, Likuwa Elizabeth (23), after injuring her with an unknown object on her head. The incident, which saw a man take his own life occurred, early Sunday morning at Mile 10 village of Ncamagoro Constituency in Kavango West but the case was reported to the Rundu charge office. The body of the deceased was transported to the Rundu hospital mortuary. In another similar incident, a 39-year-old man committed suicide at Ngone village, just east of Rundu on Sunday afternoon. The deceased, identified as Nsivi Binifasius Mudumbi (39), allegedly hanged himself with a wire from a tree branch just outside his homestead. Mudumbi was a resident of Ngone village less than 10 km east of Rundu. According to Detective Chief Inspector, Ewald Kavara of the Namibian Police in Rundu, the deceased did not leave a suicide note, which could explain the reason for the suicide.
