Dispatched thoughts - We should be proud of ourselves

It is getting colder outside and the third wave of Covid-19 is about to hit us. By all accounts, it seems like this is the worst period we have ever had to live through. To most people, it is a bleak time and it is in times like these that we miss and underplay our achievements.

We should be proud of our achievements and ourselves. When the year started, we had no idea it would play out like this but it did and we somehow still managed to do things that impress others and us.

I do not mean this in a self-centred or conceited way but rather as a person sitting on the outside peeking in on the inside. It has been an incredible time so far; Lord knows what else we can achieve.

You know how it started or the challenges that you had to overcome; you know the sacrifices and the amount of work you put in. I am sure you will raise a glass with me or maybe not, but all the work you

had to put in – inside and outside – has been tremendous; we really ought to be proud of what we have done.

Of course, it goes without saying that it was not all easy and mistakes were made but that is okay; we are still not perfect – we just did what we had to do and should be damn proud of that!

With Covid-19 wreaking havoc globally, it will do us good to remember that we are still capable of executing our tasks and achieving our desired goals – and if history has taught us anything, we always achieve what we set out to do – no matter the obstacles.

I remember there was a certain instance where I felt hopeless and helpless. I was thinking there was no way out for me and there was absolutely nothing I could do to remedy that situation – but today, as sure as I sit here now, that situation has become one of the best things that could have ever happened to me and I am so grateful for that. I am also proud it did not destroy me.

Regardless of the situation we are facing in our personal lives or with the outside world, we should never look down on ourselves and we should certainly not look down on our past achievements and what we are capable of.

It is always a blessing and relief to self-reflect and see the state of your life, and I am sure you will be proud too. Life is beautiful.
