D&M Rail  worker dies after wall collapse

WALVIS BAY – An employee of D&M Rail Construction died while two others were seriously injured on Thursday afternoon after a wall fell on them.

The deceased was identified as Alfeus Karunga from Swakopmund. The incident happened at the company’s premises in Theo-Ben Gurirab Street, the Namibian police at Walvis Bay stated.

Community affairs commander, Inspector Ileni Shapumba, explained on Friday that the incident happened when a fellow employee who was driving a Scania bus out of the company’s premises misjudged a turn, and hit the boundary wall.

“The driver hit the wall with the rear side of the bus, and it collapsed on the three employees who were standing close to the wall,” he said. The two injured employees are Frans Nandjembo from Walvis Bay and the driver Joseph Chihinga, resident of Tulinawa, Swakopmund.

The police are currently investigating a case of culpable homicide against the driver.
