Education Ministry fully committed to 1-1 textbook-learner ration
  WINDHOEK The Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture is fully committed to a 1-1 textbook and learner ratio, says Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Janet Steenkamp The ministry last week received Workbook Guides for Mathematics from the Mathematics and Science Aftercare Academy which has taken up the initiative of writing the guides. Steenkamp said a textbook in the hand of each learner always make a difference through independent reading opportunities and access to information the reinforcement of learning content. “As the ministry only supplies the prescribed textbooks pre subject, additional resource materials are not always available because of the limitation of funds, hence such support as this one from the private sector is much welcomed and applauded,” said Steenkamp about the guides which have been made possible with the financial help of the Frans Indongo Group and the Malherbe Associates Inc. Steenkamp said following the appeal of the minister for the private sector come on board and help the ministry in achieving its goals, the two companies heeded the appeal pointing out that the two must be proud of themselves. “Therefore a gesture such as this one we are receiving today is crucial in accelerating,” applauded Steenkamp adding that a gesture such as this one was crucial in accelerating the supply and delivery of textbooks to schools. She also expressed full confidence in the recipients’ of the guides’ capabilities in ensuring the guides are taken care of well and used to the benefit of all Namibian learners without favour.
