Emotional Ambunda thanks Namibia for support
Windhoek Newly crowned International Boxing Organisation (IBO) Super Bantamweight champion, Paulus ‘The Rock’ Ambunda was yesterday short of words when thanking all Namibians for their unwavering support during Saturday night’s world title fight. Admitting that he still struggles to come to terms with the newfound status of being a world champion again, Ambunda said he wouldn’t have made it without the support of all those that came out to fully pack the Ramatex Hall on a chilly Saturday evening. “To be quite honest, I’m still speechless at this point in time, but I want to wholeheartedly thank all Namibians for giving me their support. It was not easy, but we made it at the end of the day. I particularly want to thank my mother, the Sunshine Boxing Academy, and our sponsor MTC. Without them the fight wouldn’t have been possible,” said Ambunda. Also speaking at the press conference yesterday was Tyson Ushona, who was not quite impressed with his own overall performance, despite having captured the IBO Africa Welterweight title after dispatching Bongo Lipembo of DRC on points. Paulus ‘The Hitman’ Moses was also present and heartily congratulated Ambunda on a job well done. Widely regarded as one of the early game-changers of Namibian boxing, Moses urged Ambunda to work harder, remain humble and strive to even greater success: “Boxing is not easy, it requires a lot of hard work, determination and a strong will to succeed. So I’m really proud of you my brother, you have done the entire nation proud.”
