Erongo Powersave Road Mile this weekend...now much bigger and better
2015-10-14Staff Report 2 Windhoek Omaruru residents will this weekend be treated to a serious athletics feast when the 3rd edition of the popular Erongo Powersave Road Mile takes center stage at the town, with athletes from as far as Botswana also expected to partake in the grueling 1.6km race. Having started with more than 400 athletes in the inaugural edition and close to 610 runners in the 2nd edition, the event is expected to attract close to 700 participants this year, with organisers confirming that they will host top class athletes from Botswana. Thanks to the tireless efforts of Namibia’s widely celebrated Regional Sport Officer, Berthold Karumendu, the event has this year grown even bigger and better with more sponsors coming on board in various capacities. As for this year, Shield Namibia, Namibia Breweries under its Windhoek Light brand, Pasta Polana and Marathon Sugar have all joined forces in making the event live up to its expectations and hype with a combined sponsorship of close to N$145 000. Winners in the various categories are guaranteed to walk away with handsome prize monies, with the winner in both the Senior male and female U/20-39 age categories set to take home N$5 000 while the 2nd and 3rd placed finishers will also walk away with N$3 000 and N$2000 respectively. In both the male and female Junior U/14-19 age groups, first placed finishers will take home N$3 000 while 2nd and 3rd placed finishers will take home N$2 000 and N$1 000. In both the male and female veterans categories (U/40-49), winners are guaranteed to pocket N$3 000with 2nd and 3rd placed finishers taking home N$2 000 and N$1 000. In both the male and female Master categories (50 years and up), the top three finishers will take home N$1 500, N$1 000 and N$700 respectively in that order Caption: Karumendu Sponsors jpg - Big sponsors...
