2013-08-23Staff Report 2 "WINDHOEK- A Swakopmund born fashion designer, Eva Miarka, who is currently residing in London has endorsed local fashion designers. This was done recently when Eva hosted the Africa Finest Cultural and Fashion Show at Protea Hotel Thüringehorf in the capital. Five local designers lined up to showcase their best outfits, and some of them were awarded with the winning prices. Eva says the main aim for hosting the fashion show was because she wanted to reward the local designers and enjoys herself and her present time in Namibia with them before she leaves. Her collections are described as mix evening collection and Asian. She designs and sews them herself. “The reason I opened a business for fashion show in Namibia, I believed In Namibia we have new designers but some of them never get a chance to showcase their collections and it’s hard for people to know them. Before the show, we received 25 application forms from the designers who applied, plus one designer from Tanzania and we were only five designers who showcased our garments. Many designers told me that they really wanted to take part but the fee was too high. I understood that butI could not put the price down because we promised high quality images after the fashion show,” says Eva. Those designers who were rewarded were: Imanuel Garoeb of House of Tsatago (HOT) who received an over-lock machine worth 4000 while Luise Tulela came the second and received a plain machine worth 2000. Ashley Adele Somses from Tsumeb came in the third place and was rewarded with an iron worth 1000. “We also asked them after the fashion show to give us their collections to make a photo shoot so they can build their portfolio with models,” says Eva adding that they also received eighty seven application forms for models plus one models from Nigeria. Ten models were chosen to catwalk and paid N$ 500 each and those who volunteered were offered a free photo shoot after the show. “We also supported the charity which is NEKA from each ticket we sold for the fashion show,” says Eva. She will be in Namibia until Sunday.
