Pig Producers Association (PPA)  information day

The PPA holds a member meeting and an information day today at the NAU board room, Windhoek at 07:30.The day promises to be very informative with top speakers from South Africa.  The theme is “Barriers to enter the pig industry”.  Speakers are Dr Pieter Vervoort from CS Vet in RSA and Stefan Vermaak from Topigs Norsving in the RSA.  Presentations will be given on: 1) Important links in the value chain of pork production, 2) Expected capital expenditure when developing a pig farm, 3) Can one make money out of growing pigs? AEA Congress

The Agricultural Employers Association (AEA) congress will be held on Tuesday, June 16 at 07:30 at the Arebbush Travel Lodge, Windhoek. The theme is “Practical Farm Labour” and the keynote speaker is Derek Wright, president of the NAU. Adv Pieter de Beer will talk about labour disputes and Ms Manyo Smith of the Organic Association will give some hints n how to live healthy by planting your own fruit and vegetables on the farm. Another highlight will be the release of the user manual about Health and Safety on the farms which was compiled by the AEA. FA and other news

Summerdown FA is holding a member meeting on June 9 at 14:00 at the FA hall. Guest speaker is Roelie Venter who will talk about profitability of beef production. Further details from Rienie du Plessis, Tel 062 561621, 081 2852169, rente@iway.na.

Kalkfeld FA is hosting an Agri Mega Day (mechanism in agriculture) on June 10 at 07:30 at Farm Klein Otjikango Ost, on the Kalkfeld/Outjo road M63. There are speakers from Barloworld Agriculture and Rovic & Leers and agricultural machinery is exhibited. From 13:30 – 16:30 practical demonstrations of Mega machines and equipment is offered. The Grootfontein “kuier” festifval will be held on June 27 at the show grounds. A camping food competition will be hosted by Dawid Krause and Sanet Prinsloo. The theme is “Along the river”. Children from 8 – 13 years will make an omelette, from 14 – 19 years will make Hamburgers and the adults will make mutton ribs with side-dishes. Sanet will give a demonstration on how to prepare Rump Steaks and ribs. The following artists will perform: Snotkop, Die Broers, Andriette, Jennifer Zamudeo and Stefan Visagie and the Tsumeb residents will offer Voortrekker and “boere” sport. The Simmentaler/Simbra Association is offering an advanced Simmentaler and Simbra course in Windhoek from June 30 to July 2. The course is offered by Adrian Odendaal, Jaco Mare, Diethelm Metzger and Stephan Voigts and costs N$800 per person. Participants must have passed the Simmentaler or Simbra beginner course in order to take part. On the first day modern breeding practices will be discussed, on the second day Simmentaler judging and on the third day Simbra judging.
