Fake e-mail scam targets employers

The labour ministry is warning the public of a fake e-mail scam targeting employers.

The fraudulent email originate from Nelago.Kama@mol.gov.na  and carries a subject line titled: “Non Compliance Update - Ministry Of Labour Namibia.” This e-mail contains an attached zipped folder.

The fake communication further provides a bogus “file report case number” that the receiver can apparently use to receive their non-compliance update.

“The ministry feels that it’s a right thing to do to warn the public about this fake email as it contains its domain name. For this reason, it might be perceived as an official email from this ministry by some recipients. The ministry therefore would like to warn the public that it has no knowledge of such email and should be ignored at all cost,” reads a warning from the labour ministry.

The public is further advised not to open the attached folder, as it might lead to unforeseen consequences.

The ministry has reported the matter to the Office of the Prime Minister for possible action.
