FAO and NOA to host two consumer discussion days
WINDHOEK - The Namibian Organic Association (NOA) and the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations (UN) will be hosting a discussion day on May 9 at the Green Market Café, at 3 Dr. Kenneth Kaunda St., Stephanus Church, Windhoek. It will discuss for organic food, availability, quality, prices, perceptions and ideas about sustainable agricultural practices in Namibia. Moderators for the event will be Allison Loconto (FAO expert, Rome) Wiebke Volkmann (Consultant, Namibia) and Manjo Smith, NOA’s Chairperson. The event will take place from 09.30 to 11.30 and will be followed by a  Consumer Discussion from 17.30 to 19.00 on May 11, which will take place at the Namibian Agronomic Board at 30 David Meroro Street, Windhoek. FAO selected a case study on the NOA Participatory Guarantee System (PGS) as one of 15 international studies to be included in the FAO “Study on innovations in linking sustainable agricultural practices with local markets in developing countries”. NOA PGS is an organic guarantee system to certify Namibian producers for the local Namibian market. It embodies the active participation of producers, consumers and traders. As the study illustrated a unique approach to agro-ecological practices, this year it was also selected to be part of the second study that examines market linkages of the PGS. It will provide evidence on the diversity of markets used in the sales of agro-ecological products. Those interest may confirm their attendance by  May 7  to intern@noa.org.na, indicating the date on which they would like to attend.
