2015-03-13Staff Report 2 WINDHOEK - The giant University of Namibia (Unam) stadium will be the centre of attraction with a scheduled double header featuring MTC Premiership title-chasing teams against different opponents on Sunday. Following an indifferent showing in last weekend’s assignment at the coast, runaway log leaders African Stars will be obliged to regroup in an effort to manufacture a decent win when they come up against the equally wounded Unam in what promises to be an intriguing battle of the giants. The Reds could only fashion out a paltry two points from a possible six on their coastal journey and another such lukewarm performance will allow reigning Namibian champions Black Africa to close the gap on the log leaders. On the other hand, hosts Unam suffered an unexpected humiliating 3-0 defeat at the hands of fast-improving Mighty Gunners and the students will be out to restore some lost pride in front of their home supporters. Ronny Kanalelo’s itchy-footed soldiers found themselves washed out last weekend as rain played havoc in both their scheduled league encounters against Gunners and a highly potential title decider against traditional rivals old foes FNB Orlando Pirates respectively. If BA’s performance against Gunners in the opening 45 minutes that saw the visitors taking a one goal cushion is anything to go by – then their Sunday opponents Tura Magic, a team that is fast proving to be their nemesis, could again provide an upset, and the game’s fanatics are surely in for a football fiesta. After an usual somewhat sluggish start to their title defence – BA’s management wasted little tine and rolled up their sleeves to beef up the ailing squad, bringing in experienced new recruits with former Civics’ goatee-bearded midfielder Heini Isaacks a notable figure. Mathematically, BA still have an outside chance of overhauling the Reds from the pedestal should they collect maximum points from their outstanding winnable two fixtures against Gunners and Pirates – and hope other results go their way. BA head coach Kanalelo is confident his charges are capable of pulling off a surprise to rewrite the history books by tumbling two consecutive league records. ‘As it stands, we are just taking it game by game but the prospects of catching Stars look quite promising and if we maintain momentum, the league title is still up for grabs as far as I’m concerned,” commented the former Brave Warriors sticks man. Action gets underway at the Sam Nujoma Stadium tomorrow with high-flying Tigers welcoming Citizens in the 2nd of a triple-header featuring Rebels and Civics in the curtain-raiser, while Pirates host Touch & Go in the final match. Gunners should have little trouble seeing off Benfica when the league’s new boys lock horns at the Mokati Stadium in Otjiwarongo. Coastal giants Eleven Arrows and LHU Blue Waters travel up north to exchange opponents in scheduled double headers against hosts United Stars and Julihno respectively.
