Father denied bail for son’s death
Windhoek The man who allegedly smashed his four-year-old-son on the floor three times on Sunday evening resulting in his death, yesterday said –before he appeared in the Katutura Magistrate’s Court – that the incident was a result of him finding out the boy was not his son. He in the same breath he accused his girlfriend of cheating on him. David Simon, 44, was denied bail when he appeared in court and his case was remanded to September 8, to enable him to apply for a government funded attorney and for further police investigations. “I have something to say about the matter, I will plead guilty, but with a reason,” Simon said to New Era. The mother reportedly refused to go for a paternity test. “I did not mean to kill the boy,” he added when asked why he killed the boy rather than taking the boy back to his mother when he found out he was not his son. Yesterday Simon appeared confused. Magistrate Johannes Shuuveni presided while Sirka Nangoro represented the State. Confirming the incident on Monday, Inspector Slogan Matheus from the Police Public Relations Division said it happened on Sunday at 20h00 in Mika Shimbuli Street, Owambo location in Katutura. Atanasius David’s head was allegedly hit three times on the floor by his father. The boy died on the spot. The father was arrested but he could not be interrogated as he appeared unstable, Matheus added. The boy had been living with his father. The neighbours who live in the same compound allegedly heard the boy crying and when they looked through the window, they saw the boy’s head being smashed on the floor. The mother was not living in the same house, she lived nearby, the inspector added.
