Festival a Resounding Success
"By Frederick Philander WINDHOEK An HIV/Aidsmural painting was on Saturday launched as part of the annual Rakutuka Arts Festival in Katutura by the director of the American Cultural Centre. The HIV/Aids mural was in December last year painted by art students of the John Muafangejo Art Centre as the largest of the PEPFAR funded murals at Dawid Bezuidenhout High School in Khomasdal, Mandume Primary School in Katutura and Aurora Primary School in Okahandja. ""This mural represents the coming together of diverse cultures and ethnic groups to fight the scourge of Aids in Namibia. I wish to applaud Namibian artists for their role in raising awareness about HIV/Aids in the fight against the disease,"" Ray Castillo said. The Rakutuka Festival also featured musical and cultural performances and showcased art created during the year by the Katutura Community Art Centre. The festival also included a chess game competition sponsored by Schoolnet Namibia, a glass project demonstration, activities for children and the crowning of Mr and Mrs Rakutuka. The main festival sponsors were Bank Windhoek, the Goethe Center and the National Theatre of Namibia. "
