Former NFA President Faces Fraud Charges
OSHAKATI The former president of the Namibia Football Association (NFA), Immanuel 'Imms' Namaseb, was arrested at Oshakati on Wednesday on charges of cheque fraud amounting to N$36 000. Court officials confirmed that Namaseb, who is currently in charge of a company called IDEA (Pty) Limited located in the Coolmaster Complex near Ongwediva, made his brief first appearance in the Oshakati magistrates court yesterday morning. Magistrate Helena Ekandjo released him on bail of N$5000 until his next appearance on 31 August this year, depending on the completion of further police investigations. Court officials revealed that Namaseb, 44, was not asked to plead. He is being accused of issuing a cheque of N$36 000 to the Oshakati Guest Hotel, a project of the Ministry of Education for Valombola Vocational Training Centre students, who are taking part in a hospitality training course. Namaseb issued the cheque to the hotel to foot part of the bill amounting to a total of N$46 580 for accommodation and other services the hotel rendered to about 30 participants of a workshop organized by his company. The participants from the northern regions of Ohangwena, Oshana, Omusati, Oshikoto, Kavango, Kunene and Caprivi were attending a 'Junior Farmer Field Life Schools Training of Trainers' workshop from 26 February to 11 March. Namaseb had paid the first instalment of the bill with a N$10 000 cheque but the second cheque of N$36 000 was referred back to the drawer by Standard Bank as there were no funds in the said account. - Nampa
