Four drown in Omusati

The police in Omusati have recorded four drownings over the Easter weekend, including the case of a 12-year-old boy who drowned in a pond. According to the police regional commander, Commissioner Titus Shikongo, the victim drowned in a pond near the homestead, while he was in the company of two minor children.

“The siblings then rushed to the neighbours’ house and alerted them about the incident,” said Shikongo. The victim’s body was retrieved by the neighbours who then alerted the police. He was identified as David Samuel Kaanduka, a learner at Omunyele Combined School at Oshitukafitu village.

In a separate incident, Moses Belena Shanyengange (30) died while retrieving fishing nets with his friends at Omaumba village in the Tsandi constituency. According to Shikongo, the victim fell deep in the water and drowned in the process. Divers from Oshakati retrieved his body on Sunday.

In the Etayi constituency, a mentally ill man also drowned on Thursday afternoon. The 28-year-old man was allegedly last seen last week Monday and his decomposed body was discovered on Thursday. According to Shikongo, the floating body of Tuukondjele Petrus was discovered by school children who were crossing a floodplain at Iipandayamiti village.

At Otamanzi, a body of a man was discovered floating in a floodplain by a boy who was herding goats in the area. Hilifavali Gideon Fudeni was last seen on Thursday evening at the Omvula Niiloke location.
